Sunroom Landscaping Ideas
12' x 18' Rectangle Sunroom
Shown with Sandstone Vinyl Siding
& Dual Black Asphalt Shingles
With one of our stunning
sunrooms
, you can create an idyllic haven in your own backyard. By virtue of its sheer beauty, standing alone, it’s already a showplace; but, by adding a few artful touches to the landscape, you can give it a grand showcase.
Your sunroom deserves its own special landscaping. Knowing what you plan to use it for will help you to determine what style of landscaping it should be. For example, you may want to use your sunroom as an extension of your home, in which case it will be treated as an extra room. Toward that end, you can design it with siding, trim, and roofing to match what is on your house.
You may even want to integrate your sunroom with your deck, or place it on the opposite side of your porch or patio. That way, it can act as a breakfast nook, or a dining room, where you can sit and have your morning coffee, eat your meals, or entertain friends. It’s close enough to the house to make it convenient to carry things back and forth, but, at the same time, affords a little more privacy.
If you’re not going to have it that close, you can establish a sense of continuity, by putting in a pathway that leads from your house right to the door of the sunroom. If you have a flagstone walkway to the front of your house, you can use the same types of stones for the path that will go to the sunroom.
You can accomplish that same feeling of unity by extending a row of flowers, trees, or shrubs to reach to the sunroom, or planting the same kinds of flowers around the sunroom as you have outside of your house.
If you have a white picket fence in your yard, you can reinforce the concept of your sunroom as a miniature house by putting one up around the sunroom as well. You can also do the same thing with any other type of fence.
Of course, if you want to set your sunroom apart, as a place where you can go to get a little privacy and quiet relaxation, a fence is great for that, too. With countless options for materials and colors, you will easily be able to have a fence that is attractive, durable, and complementary to the landscape.
Trellises
,
arbors
, and
pergolas
work perfectly for any purpose. You can use trellises and garden screens to create spectacular walls of flowers that will add more privacy to the sunroom area, by separating it from the common space of the backyard. On the other hand, arbors will also make magnificent and welcoming entranceways that lead from the house to the sunroom.

These garden structures are also great for hiding backyard blemishes, such as rocky slopes, unsightly irrigation systems, utility poles or wires, or old, crumbling retaining walls.
If you’re going to use your sunroom as a getaway, you may want to design a completely different landscape to surround it. For a soothing effect, plant flowers with soft colors and sweet scents which will provide a natural form of aroma therapy. You may also consider adding wind chimes, birdbaths, bird feeders, and, perhaps, a fountain, which will offer the soothing sound of running water.
Speaking of running water, one of the most popular trends for sunrooms is installing hot tubs in them. If you choose to do this, you will have your own personal spa right in the backyard where you can relax and unwind after a stressful day at work.
Hot tubs also work quite well for those who want to use their sunrooms for entertaining. If that is your intention, you may want to give your sunroom and the surrounding landscape a more festive flair.

To add a gala atmosphere to the area, you can use decorative stones, garden art, or lawn decorations with tropical or exotic themes. You can even put tropical plants, including small palm trees, into colorful planters, which can be taken indoors when the weather gets cold.
To create a fantastic focal point, put in a brick fireplace, barbecue, or barbecue pit. You can also set up nets for badminton and volleyball, and have lawn games, such as
croquet
, horseshoes, or
quoits
on hand. A good way to define the area is to use
decorative lanterns
, party lights, and torches, which will also help to keep bugs away.
These are but a few of the countless ways in which you can beautify your backyard. You have already taken the first step simply by installing a breathtaking sunroom from CedarStore.com. After that, the list of landscaping ideas goes on and on and on – just like the years of enjoyment that you will get from your sunroom.
